松沢哲郎
霊長類学者
京都大学霊長類研究所教授。国際霊長類学会長。学生運動の時代に京都大学に入学し、哲学科へ。人間は世界をどう見ているのかを明らかにしたいという興味から実験心理学を学ぶ一方、京大山岳部に所属し、登山に明け暮れる。大学院に進学の後、京都大学霊長類研究所に助手として着任、霊長類学に出会う。1978年春よりチンパンジーに言葉を教える「アイ・プロジェクト」を開始し、注目を集めた。現在は、霊長類学の第一人者として研究を続けると同時に、野生のチンパンジーの保全を目指す「緑の回廊」プロジェクトをアフリカで推進するなど、チンパンジーにとっての豊かな環境づくりに努めている。
MATSUZAWA Tetsuro
Primatologist
Prof. Matsuzawa is a professor at the Primate Research Institute of Kyoto University. He is also the president of the International Primatological Society. He entered Kyoto University as a philosophy major and as a student, his curiosity in people’s perception of the world led him to study experimental psychology. During that time he also enjoyed mountain climbing and was a member of Kyoto University Alpine Club. After graduate school, Prof. Matsuzawa became an assistant professor at the Primate Research Institute of Kyoto University. In 1978, he started “Ai-Project”, a project in which he taught language-like skills to chimpanzees. He continues to be active in primatology research, a field in which he is known to be a pioneer. He recently started the "Green Corridor Project", which aims to protect wild chimpanzees and their habitat in Africa.
